The word ‘LOGISTICS’ was first used in the military service, to describe the process of supplying a war zone with troops, supplies and equipment.
Presently, the term is being used more commonly in the field of business.
This can be attributed to the parts logistics play in business. Logistics is now a practical organization that is needed to make a complicated plan successful, when a lot of people and equipment is involved.
Infact; a logistic process is also a supply chain process that plans, implements and controls the efficient flow and storage goods, services and related information from point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet the consumer/customers requirement. It is the efficient flow and storage of goods from their point of origins to the point of consumptions. And beyond supply chain processes, logistics by extension involves Handling, Inventory and Warehousing services.
Logistics can be defined; as the art and science of managing and controlling the flow of goods, service, energy, information and other resources from the sources to the market place and /or the consumers
